In December we are starting a recorder unit called recorder karate. As students pass off songs by playing them for Mr. Allen they receive colored belts to tie around the bottom of their recorder. Below you can find copies of the music for at home practice.

I am excited to announce that we will be we will be learning how to play recorders in music class this year. Playing the recorder is a fantastic way for students to learn music notation, develop the discipline of learning a musical instrument, and perform music with their peers. The school owns a class set of recorders which are available for students to use, however these recorders are not to leave the music room. If you would like to purchase a recorder for your child to take home for practice please return the bottom part of attached letter with $4.50 (cash only) by Friday, October 4th. The recorders we are ordering are made by a reputable music company and are built to play in tune. Students who have recorders from stores like Dollar Tree or Target are welcome to use them for at home practice, but will not be able to use them in class if they do not play in tune

50 Nifty United States
![Picture](/uploads/1/8/7/8/18784332/5830407.jpg)
One of the 4th grade social studies standards is to be able to identify our 50 starts. We are integrating this standard into music class by learning the song 50 Nifty United States where students sing the names of all 50 states in alphabetical order. The first time we sing them at an Andante (medium) tempo and then again at an Allegro (fast) tempo. For the next few weeks students will be able to take my 50 state challenge by singing all 50 states in under a minute. Students who are successful will receive the coveted 50 Nifty award. To practice at home, students can follow the below YouTube links.
